About Jacalyn

“I became a mediator to help people find a way to resolve their differences before they even get inside a courtroom. Those who are involved in a legal dispute find themselves in a system over which they have little control. Mediation is the one opportunity in this process where the parties can make their own decisions and influence the course of the claim. It often results in a faster end to the dispute and greater satisfaction with the outcome.”

Jacalyn grew up on a small horse farm in the Amish country of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, and moved here to North Carolina almost immediately after graduating from college. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications from Pennsylvania State University and after years of working in administration, graphic design, non-profit management, and raising a family, she then attended and received her Juris Doctorate from Wake Forest University School of Law. After 16 years she left the practice of law to become a mediator.

In 1997, she co-founded the United States Equine Rescue League, Inc., a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose mission is to save, protect, and rehabilitate equines in need. Jacalyn and her husband, Mark, have two grown sons, Reece and Calvin, and a daughter-in-law, Callie. She also enjoys volunteering at the animal shelter, nature photography, singing bass with the women’s barbershop chorus Triad A Cappella Connection, healthy cooking, home improvement projects, and reading.
